About the course

Course content

An introduction to time typical building techniques and construction methods from important epoaches as a basic for condition surveys of with different purpose within management of construction works.
Introduction to renovation and refurbishment: challenges, processes and requirements linked to renovation and refurbishment of existing buildings with a focus on energytechnical solutions in a life-cycle perspective.
Other central topics are strategic, tactic and operational matter considering organization of Facilities Management (Management, Operation, Maintenance, Development, Service; MOMDS). The course also gives an introduction to analytical methods, benchmarking tools and the laws and regulations relevant for renovation, refurbishing and management of buildings.

Learning outcome

The course shall give the student basic knowledge and practical knowledge of time typical building methods, building traditions, laws and challenges linked to renovation and refurbishment of existing buildings.
The students will also be introduced to technical and economic terms and methods linked to administration, management, maintenance and development of buildings, including Facility Management.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures. A practical obligatoric assignment that is to be done in groups of 4-5 persons. Portfolio assessment is the basis for the grade in the course. The portfolio includes a written exam (67%) and a written assignment (33%). The results for the parts are given in %-scores, while the entire portfolio is assigned a letter grade. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
