About the course
Course content
The course comprise the following topics: Fire as a risk to society and individuals. Fire safety regulations. Laws, codes and guidelines. Fire physics - this comprise chemical and physical conditions, heat transfer, development and spread of fire and smoke. Materials reaction to fire. Fire load and characterization of fires. Fire response of materials, structures, installations and people. Fire testing and classification of materials and components. Measures to prevent and reduce fire damages. Active and passive fire protection. Fire safety engineering.
Learning outcome
The course gives an introduction to fire risk, fire technology and fire safety engineering, and conditions and measures of importance to achieve fire safety of buildings and structures, and to reduce fire damages.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, compulsory exercises. The lectures and exercises are given in English when students who do not speak Norwegian follow the course. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
