About the course
Course content
This course is aimed at sign language interpreters that have working experience. The academic content comes from the current bachelor's degree program, ensuring that the subject knowledge is up to date. The course highlights relevant knowledge and perspectives related to language, interpreting, and professional development. An important part of the course is to contribute to the development of a common professional language. The course is web-based and has a flexible structure which makes it possible to combine study with work. Activities and assignments in the module are designed so that students can transfer the content to their own working lives as well as bringing in and sharing experiences with each other.
Learning outcome
The candidate
- can describe, analyze, and reflect on interpreting situations using linguistic and interpreting terminology
- is familiar with a selection of recent research on sign language
- can use tools for systematic preparation of interpreting assignments
- can describe and discuss the interpreter's role-space in different interpreting situations based on theoretical perspectives
- can relate research-based literature to and reflect on trust, power, and building relationships in interpreting situations
- has broad knowledge of and can reflect on the professional development of interpreters from different perspectives

Compulsory assignments
- A written submission
- An oral presentation
Further on evaluation
Compulsory assignments:
- A written submission of 1000 words +/- 10%
- An oral presentation lasting 10-15 minutes
Exam:
Written assignment, 2500 words +/- 10%, assessed as passed/not passed.
