Course content
The students need to have their choice of specialization and project approved by the department at the start of the semester when they do this specialization project. The actual academic content of the course will vary with the chosen project.
Learning outcome
The course will aim at increasing the student's ability to do practical and theoretical work in connection to energy market and system design and analysis. The position and function of the course in the study program: The course is compulsory for the students in their 2nd year of the specialization "Sustainable Energy Systems and Markets". The course will give the students in-depth knowledge and competence to approach, understand, specify, model, solve, and analyse a technical-economical problem in the area of energy markets and systems, typically with some focus on renewable energy carriers and / or energy carrier integration. Knowledge achieved in the course: * Detailed knowledge about modeling, theory and methods within their chosen topic; * Detailed knowledge about implementation, applications, and solution of specific challenges within their chosen topic. Skills achieved in the course: * Skills to structure technical-economical design and planning problems such that they can be modeled; * Skills to choose an appropriate method for solving a problem; * Skills to use appropriate tools to implement the model and method such that it is possible to carry out technical and economic analyses and discussions. General knowledge learnt in the course: * The student should have learnt to write a scientific report; * The student should have learnt and practiced how to search for relevant literature to achieve completive knowledge; * The student should have achieved general knowledge about economic analyses and optimization in energy market and infrastructure settings with both technical and economic aspects; * The student should have a basis to communicate in a meaningful way with economists and engineers about combined technological and economic problems.
Learning methods and activities
The project deliverable is a written report on the topic of (renewable) energy systems and markets, and is typically based on the development or extension, implementation and application of a model and a literature search and review. There will be regular supervision meetings in addition to the students independent work. The project is normally performed by groups of two students.
Required previous knowledge
Students need to have the following courses taken: TIØ4126 - Optimization and Decision Support for Industrial Business Planning or equivalent; TIØ4118 Industrial Economic Analysis, or SØK3524 Environmental and Resource Economics or equivalent; TET4135 Energy Systems Planning and Operation or equivalent;. Students that take this project course need at the same time to take TIØ4585 Energy Market Design and Policy, Specialization Course.
