About the course
Course content
Mechanical behavior of advanced engineering materials, metals, polymers, fiber composites and rubbers. Special consideration for plasticity, visco-elasticity, hyperelasticity, progressive damage and large deformations. Time dependent properties, stress rupture and fatigue. Production and preparation of test samples. Fundamental testing methods, loading and techniques for measurements and data acquisition. Tensile and compressive testing, flexural testing, biaxial testing, joints and selected component testing.
Learning outcome
Knowledge:
The candidate will get knowledge of mechanical properties of advanced materials.
Skills:
Experimental test methods and analysis of test results.
General competence:
Understand advanced materials and their use in engineering applications.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, project work and experimental work. The lectures and exercises are in English when students who do not speak Norwegian take the course. If the teaching is given in English the Examination papers will be given in English only. Students are free to choose Norwegian or English for written assessments. If there is a re-sit examination, the examintaion form may be changed from written to oral.
