About

About the course

Course content

Boolean algebra: Basic postulates and theorems, logic calculation and methods for simplification of logic expressions. Sequential systems: Methods for description of sequential systems and development of the logic equations for the systems. Instrumentation: The basic principles for measurement of mechanical and thermal parameters, interfaces with digital/analog and analog/digital signal conversion. PLC systems: System structures and programming. Microcontrollers: Microcontroller structures and their feasibility in process control. Realization of digital functions, interface solutions.

Learning outcome

The course shall develop basic knowldege about description and building of digital control system for mechatronic applications both in product development and for automation of manufacturing processes.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, exercises and laboratory tasks, both individual and group tasks, one "mini project" at the end of the course. The lectures and exercises are in English when students who do not speak Norwegian take the course. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.

Compulsory assignments

  • Theory and lab exercises
