Course content

Elementary algebra
Equations and inequalities, equation system
Trigonometric functions, trigonometric identities, triangel calculations, trigonometric equations
Spherical trigonometri
Vector arithmetic, scalar product, vector product. Using vectors to solve applied problems
Exponential- and logarithmic functions
Limits, techniques of differentiation, applied maximum and minimum problems
Integral, applications of the definite integral

Learning outcome

Learning outcomes - Knowledge:
Have good knowledge about the topics specified under the heading "Academic content"
Learning outcomes - Skills:
Be able to do calculations with trigonometric functions in the plane and on the surface of a sphere
Be able to use vector arithmetic, calculate torque by using the vector product
Be able to define a function for an applied problem, and use differentiation to determine the maximum- or minimum values for the function
Be able to use integration to find the area of a plane region and the volume of a solid
Learning outcomes - Expertise:
Be able to use mathematical methods within other subjects in nautical education
Have a mathematical foundation for further studies and lifelong learning in nautical courses
