About the course
Course content
In this course students develop their proficiency in written and spoken German. Students must regularly hand in written work in German.
Learning outcome
KNOWLEDGE
The candidate
-has knowledge of German culture and central aspects of the German-speaking society
-has knowledge of different types of texts
-has knowledge of the most important word classes and can employ them according to their system of conjugation
-has basic knowledge of the German sentence structure
PROFICIENCY
The candidate
-can understand and communicate in German both in writing and orally at level B1
-can participate in conversations on known topics
-can use relevant dictionaries, reference books and grammars
-can read, understand and discuss different types of German texts
GENERAL COMPETENCE
The candidate
-can reflect on central differences between Norwegian and German language and culture
Learning methods and activities
A combination of lectures and group sessions including practical training in the use of German language. Approved obligatory assignment is valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester).
Compulsory assignments
- 1 oral presentation, approx. 10 min.
- 4 short written works
Further on evaluation
Assessment: Written exam (4 hours) and oral examination (approx. 20 minutes). The exam is weighted at 1/2 and 1/2 respectively. Both parts of the exam are graded together. Students who fail must sit both parts again. The exam must be answered in German.
Recommended previous knowledge
German from Norwegian "videregående skole" (Upper secondary school) grade 4 or better, or knowledge of German equivalent to level A2 or better according to the Common European Framework of Reference for languages, is required. The course is taught exclusively in German.
