Course content

The course consists of the following topics:

• Introduction to the wireless industrial communication

• Introduction to Industry 4.0

• Cyber physical system and Internet of things (IoT)

• Basic knowledge on communication systems and wireless channel• Introduction to different industrial communication systems: Wireless LAN, IEEE 802.15.4 (Zigbee), WirelessHART

• 5G with focus on industrial applications• Wireless security

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge on the different capabilities of wireless industrial communications for sustainability and strategy
  • Understanding of the different industrial wireless communication systems
  • Understanding of the characteristics of wireless industrial channel
  • Knowledge on the concept of Industry 4.0, cyber physical system/Internet of things (IoT), 5G technologies, wireless security, etc.

Skills:

  • Can understand the possibilities as well as challenges of deploying communication systems in industrial scenarios
  • Can explain various ICT concepts introduced in this course
  • Can carry out an independent and limited research on system design of industrial wireless communication systems

General competence:

  • Understand the different wireless industrial automation capabilities
  • Understand the difference of industrial environments from the perspective of wireless channel propagation
  • Understand the different ICT technologies introduced in this course
  • Can contribute to new thinking and innovation in the area of wireless industrial communication
  • Can apply his/her knowledge and skills in new areas in order to carry out advanced assignments and projects within wireless industrial communication
