– PhD programme in Biophysics

 

The goal of a PhD education is to enable the candidate to conduct research at a high international level. The research will be made with sound scientific practice and established standards for research ethics. The PhD candidate will be able to solve complex research problems using creative solutions that will have a social and economic impact on society.

Candidate who has completed his or her qualification should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

Knowledge

The candidate

  • is at the forefront of knowledge within his or her field of biophysics, bionanotechnology and/or medical physics which allows for development of future needs within the fields
  • has the knowledge to apply physics to biological systems
  • has knowledge within advanced experimental methods and/or computational biophysics

Skills

The candidate

  • can formulate problems for, plan and carry out research and scholarly development work
  • can use the research methods of the field to create new knowledge, new theories and methods
  • can carry out research and scholarly research work of a high international standard
  • can handle complex academic issues and challenge established knowledge and practice in the field
  • can apply theories and methods of physics to understand how biological systems work

General competence

The candidate

  • can identify new relevant ethical issues and carry out his or her research with scholarly integrity
  • is aware of United Nation's sustainability goals and conducts research according to these
  • can assess the risks involved in the work, and safeguard HSE
  • can manage complex assignments and projects
  • can communicate research and development work through recognized national andinternational channels
  • can participate in debates in the field in international forums
  • can quickly acquire new knowledge
  • can establish academic networks
  • is prepared for the career after the PhD and has an overview of opportunities in academia, industry, public and private sector
