About Exercise in Medicine 2024

About the 10th seminar on Exercise in Medicine

20 years is a long time in science. Strikingly, the first ever human genome sequence, released in 2003, was a project that cost billions of dollars over the course of a decade. Today, a genome may be sequenced in one workday for a tiny fraction of the cost. The advances made in all fields, both in terms of knowledge and technology, continue to come exponentially faster.
Over a similar period, the Cardiac Exercise Research Group (CERG) has been hosting the Exercise in Medicine Seminar. Through all the advances, funding ups and downs, and global pandemics, this biennial meeting is now in its 10th edition. We have hosted world class scientists and up and coming young local researchers and given them the chance to present and discuss recent progress in using exercise as medicine and establish collaborations and friendships in a fun environment. The cutting-edge research and PhD students we have seen at these seminars from 2005 onwards have become the textbook knowledge and research leaders of today.
Finding out the mechanisms by which exercise can improve cardiovascular health and the most effective methods to achieve these improvements for regular people has and will continue to be a cornerstone of both CERG and the EiM seminars. However, one of the biggest trends in the field over the past decade has been the growing realization that cardiovascular health and neurological health are intrinsically linked. A healthy heart is one of the keys to a healthy brain. With the ever-increasing societal burden of dementia, the importance of exercise in medicine has never been stronger. This year, we will have a particular focus on the role of exercise in aging and on the brain, with experts from across Scandinavia, and from as far as San Francisco and Brisbane joining us to discuss this exciting topic.
We warmly invite you to join us for a fun and stimulating two-day seminar with an academic program to be held at St. Olavs Hospital during the day and continuing with a social program at Kavli institute 5th floor (St. Olav hospital) at the evening.
