Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and zero/quasi-dimensional simulations and model development for reacting multiphase flows based on detailed chemistry.

Areas of work

  • Energy recovery of bio-originated and solid municipal wastes
  • Material recycling of mixed plastic wastes through thermal treatment 
  • Emission prediction in alternative fuel combustion (NOx, SOx, HCl, soot, ...)

ACTIVATE- Ammonia as carbon free fuel for internal combustion engine driven agricultural vehicle

Main tasks: proposal co-developer, steering committee member, and consult for numerical simulations

GASPRO - Gasification for biofuel production

Main tasks: development of a surrogate concept and devolatilization scheme for sewage sludge; feedstock sensitive modeling of gasification product gas quality and emission prediction in subsequent combustion

GrateCFD - Enabling optimum Grate fired woody biomass and waste to energy plant operation through Computational Fluid Dynamics

Main tasks: development of a stochastic reactor network approach for grate-fired plants based on detailed chemistry; development of concepts for minimum NOx emissions
