Sletvik Field Station has a unique ecosystem optimal for field trips for students and organizations

Sletvik field station has laboratories for life on land and marine enviroments. The station has the necessitites for overnight trips.

The unique ecosystem of plants and animals both on land and water provides the otimal environment to gather samples to examine.

Who can use Sletvik Field Station?

Sletvik field station is available for fieldwork and scientific seminars. The station is used by a lot of courses at NTNU, primarily from the Department of Biology, but also among Teacher students.

High schools, Organizations and companies can also rent the facilities. They may use the lab facilities, but need to provide their own equipment.

Gunnerus Research Vessel at NTNU comes down to assist with gathering samples in the rich marine environment in the Sletvik area.

That gives the students a great opportunity to study marine species freshly collected.

Sletvik arranges field trips for students in Biology. A lot of the research involves insects and plants, but also bird and small mammals can be examined.

Sletvik field station has a laboratory for examination of marine species like star fish. The field station has primarily aquariums and microscopes.

Facilities

In the main building, there is a kitchen and dining room, a living room, one large teaching laboratory for 50 students, one multilab for 25 students and two seawater laboratories.

In addition, there are a number of bedrooms, a sauna, a laundry room and showers. Additional bedrooms are located in an annex (barracks), which also contains shower room. Accommodations are with 4 and 6 bunk beds with four or six persons in each rooms, but a few singular and double rooms can be provided.

Unique ecosystem

The ecosystem in the area is optimal to study life on land and water. The location in a valley next to a natural lagoon provides an environment where species can flourish.
