about Alexandra Neyts
am a Project Manager at the Department of Marine Technology, NTNU. I lead the project Brohode Havbruk, a public–private partnership aimed at strengthening recruitment, increasing the relevance of education and research, and stimulating innovation within the aquaculture sector. Through initiatives at the university, in schools, among industry actors, and within research communities, the project connects theory with practice and bridges urban and coastal perspectives. The work is genuinely interdisciplinary, with a strong emphasis on students as agents of change.
I am the administrative lead of the capacity‑building project MIDAS – Humans in Future Ocean Operations, funded by the Research Council of Norway. The consortium aims to position autonomous ocean‑space technology as one of Norway’s future key export industries. A central focus is the role of humans in interaction with autonomous systems, addressed through good design and the development of business competence.
I also lead a consortium funded by the Norwegian Seafood Research Fund (FHF) that is developing a new textbook on floating aquaculture structures, and I contribute to NTNU’s initiatives in continuing and further education for the aquaculture industry.
My engagement in interdisciplinary research and education is closely linked to NTNU’s strategic priority areas Ocean and Coast / team Food from the Sea, the Gemini Centre for Sustainable Aquaculture, and EATiP.
I hold a master's degree in agricultural engineering with a speciality in aquaculture from Ghent University, and a master’s degree in oceanography from the University of Liège, both in Belgium.
