Andreas Langdal
About
I am a researcher in the Up4Food project at NTNU and in the AlgOpti project at UiT. The goal of Up4Food is to further develop sustainable and healthy ingredients as well as new food concepts based on side streams from European food systems. Up4Food adopts a systems approach to upscale side streams from three selected value chains in Europe: potatoes, oilseeds, and pelagic fish. The project combines green technology, sustainability assessments, and collaboration with actors in the food system to develop new value chains, ingredients, and food concepts that are both nutritious and environmentally friendly.
My role in the project is to assess the sustainability of the proposed solutions through life cycle assessments (LCA), material flow analyses (MFA), and the Sustainability Development Analysis Grid (SDAG). I investigate how side streams can be utilized to reduce food waste and improve resource efficiency, while also contributing to the development of knowledge and debate around food policy. The goal is to ensure that the new ingredients and food concepts align with sustainability goals and can be implemented on a large scale.
