About

I am a researcher in the Up4Food project at NTNU and the AlgOpti project at UiT, where I work to identify solutions that can reduce food waste, improve resource efficiency, and contribute to more sustainable food and feed value chains. My research is primarily based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Material Flow Analysis (MFA), and other systems-based approaches used to evaluate how novel raw materials, side streams, and production solutions influence environmental impacts, resource use, and food security. My current work includes investigating how side streams from the pelagic seafood industry can be utilized in new products and assessing the environmental implications of such transitions. In parallel, I examine how sustainability dimensions are prioritized within European food research through the SDG acceleration framework, Sustainability Development Analysis Grid (SDAG), with the aim of providing a more nuanced understanding of social, ethical, societal, environmental, and economic sustainability challenges.

I hold a PhD from UiT The Arctic University of Norway, where I investigated the environmental footprint of low-trophic marine resources in food and feed production. My research combined studies of LCA-relevant functional units, nutritional contributions, and resource utilization to better understand how novel marine resources can contribute to future food systems. This work included research on blue mussel production and methodological challenges within LCA, emerging sea cucumber fisheries in Norway and their potential climate impacts, as well as fish feed development and the circular utilization of marine side streams.

I am committed to ensuring that research contributes to society beyond scientific publications. Therefore, I actively engage in science communication, open science, and the dissemination of research findings. Following the philosophy: “Nothing in science has any value to society if it is not communicated.” (Roe, 1953).
