Babak Amin Farshchian

About

I am an associate professor in information systems, conducting research on digital transformation in service organizations, particularly within healthcare and social and welfare services. My work is published in the fields of Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) and Information Systems (IS). In my research, I primarily apply interpretive qualitative methods and adopt a sociotechnical perspective.

I teach courses in research methods for computer science students at both MSc and PhD levels and also investigate the pedagogical aspects of my teaching.

Research

I have been conducting research on digital transformation (under various banners) since 1995. My work falls within the fields of Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) and Information Systems (IS), and I primarily use interpretive qualitative research methods.

Much of my research involves large case studies in collaboration with service organizations, particularly in public healthcare and social services. I am also engaged in NTNU initiatives that strengthen collaboration between the university and the public sector, such as NTNU-NAV-HMN samarbeidsprogram, and TRD 3.0.

I teach research methods at the master’s and PhD levels and supervise students working on digital transformation, information systems, and Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW). In addition, I conduct research on the pedagogical aspects of teaching research methods.
