About

I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Health Sciences at NTNU in Ålesund. My research focuses on digital health, health systems research, implementation science, maternal and child health, and global health. I am particularly interested in how evidence is generated, synthesized, and translated into practice, and how health innovations can be effectively integrated into routine healthcare services to improve patient outcomes and strengthen service delivery.

I am currently a researcher on the EU-funded RAPIDE project. A central theme of my work is understanding how digital technologies can support the continuity, quality, and accessibility of healthcare services, particularly during periods of system disruption and public health emergencies. Through this work, I examine how digital tools can help health systems maintain essential services while strengthening preparedness and resilience for future crises.

A growing area of my research is hybrid healthcare, where digital and face-to-face services are combined to support more accessible, person-centred, and sustainable models of care. This interest builds directly on insights from the RAPIDE project and the broader transformation of healthcare delivery through digital technologies. To advance research in this field, I am part of the coordinating team of the NovA Network for Hybrid Care, an NTNU-based, multi-country and multidisciplinary initiative that serves as a platform for collaboration, research development, and stakeholder engagement. The network brings together researchers, healthcare organisations, policymakers, and other stakeholders to explore how hybrid models of care can be designed, implemented, evaluated, and scaled across different healthcare contexts.

Originally from Ethiopia, I completed my education up to master's level and worked in higher education before pursuing further studies internationally. I subsequently earned a Master's degree in International Health from Uppsala University, Sweden, where I further developed my expertise in public health, global health, and health systems research.

During my doctoral studies in Norway, I contributed to the development, implementation, and evaluation of digital health interventions aimed at improving maternal and child healthcare services. This work included implementation and embedded research on electronic health registries (eRegistries) and targeted digital communication interventions designed to support both healthcare providers and service users. This work involved contributing to pioneering efforts in point-of-care data collection using DHIS2 Tracker, supporting the development and implementation of electronic health registry interventions for maternal and child health services.

More recently, my research has focused on patient pathways and healthcare service improvement (Patient Pathways). I have investigated how patient pathways can be modelled and visualised to better understand healthcare processes, identify inefficiencies, and facilitate communication among healthcare professionals, researchers, and decision-makers. My work has also explored the experiences of patients and healthcare providers navigating complex healthcare systems, particularly within neurology and chronic care services. The project contributed to building a visual modeling language called CJML for health domain

Throughout my research career, I have contributed to multidisciplinary projects spanning digital health, implementation science, patient-centred care, health services research, and global health. I am committed to producing research that supports evidence-informed decision-making and contributes to the development of more effective, equitable, and resilient health systems.
