About

Berit Bungum has her background in physics and is Professor in science education at the Resource Centre for Education in Mathematics, Science and Technology. The resource center seves as a bridge between research in science, mathematics and technology at the university and schools, teachers and pupils. Research is therefore closely related to development and competence building in schools and we work closely with practitioners.

Current projects

Berit Bungum is project leader for

  • KreTek - Creativity, technology and co-creating in lower secondary school. The project is a collaboration between Trondheim municipality and NTNU, and develops research-based teaching resources for lower secondary schools where programming is combined with development of students' creativity and learning in science, mathematics and technology. We also explore collaboration structures and how creativity can form part of student assessment. The project is supported by the Research Council of Norway 2019-2022.

  • KlimaDidakt: The project involves researchers at NTNU and CICERO in dissimilating research in areas relevant to climate and climate change to school teachers and pupils in lower and upper secondary schools. Through teacher courses and meetings between researchers and school classes, the project contributes to better understanding of climate, climate change and its consequences, and ho researchers work in order to contribute to understand and meet the challenges involved in climate change. KlimaDidakt has financial support from the Research Council of Norway 2022-2023.

In collaboration with the University of Oslo and the National Center for Science Education, Berit Bungum has participated in the project ReleQuant, where research is undertaken on students' learning in quantum physics and theoiries of relativity and developed research-based teaching resources (availbale in English from https://www.viten.no/eng/)

Teaching

Teaching is related to professional development for teachers in science, mathematics and technology, and supervision og master and PhD students. 

Berit Bungum is currently also teaching RFEL3100, research methods in mathematics and science education, and in the PhD course LOS8030 - Perspectives in science and technology education.
