Research Topic:
Risk-aware and safeguarding control for autonomous ships

My research focuses on the development and integration of safeguarding vehicle controllers for autonomous marine vessels. My goal is to create algorithms that guarantee the safe interaction between the ship's propulsion and power systems and its overall operation. My study involves designing control algorithms, modeling behavior-oriented control architectures for safe and effective operation in maritime domain and designing safeguarding control functions.

Background:

  • BSc in Computer Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering, Ankara University, Turkey
  • MSc in Ocean Engineering from the College of Engineering, University of Rhode Island, USA

Supervisor: Roger Skjetne

Co-supervisors: Ingrid B. Utne, Morten Breivik

Funding:

  • Research Council of Norway, project 309230, "CRI Autoship" (SFI AutoShip, RCN).
  • Research Council of Norway, project 223254, "CoE AMOS: Centre for Autonomous Marine Operations and Systems" (CoE AMOS, RCN)
  • NOR/POLNOR/ENDURE/0019/2019-00, "ENDURE: Detection, prediction, and solutions for safe operations of MASS", supported by the Polish National Centre for Research and Development and by the Research Council of Norway (RCN).
