Background and activities

 

My specialist field is the changes in the intersection among media and journalism at the one side, and commercial and technological developments on the other side. How are the media changing and developing in an era of digital transformation and market challenges? And how are media innovating within this development? A media management's perspective is often apparent in my research.

Topics here include changes in journalism and in the media, digital media development, media management, strategies in media, commercial influence on journalism, innovation and entrepreneurship in media, product development in media, changes in journalism as a social institution, revenues in digital media - and ongoing research on content marketing.

My students achieve skills to develop and manage innovative media projects - in theory and practice. 

Beside this I have a special interest in media, globalization and the Third World.

Work: 

2013-present: Associate Professor in media management and innovations, Gjøvik University College (GUC), from 2016 Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Study program manager.

1986-2009: Mainly media related work or as journalist. It includes a.o. Editor in Chief and CEO in Stavanger Aftenblad, and management positions in Aftenposten and Dagbladet. Journalistic work a.o. at Forsvarets Forum, Folkets Framtid, Fædrelandsvennen, Tønsberg Blad and Sandefjords Blad.

2005: Teaching in global journalism at the Addis Ababa University, a short period.

Directorships, among others: Chairman in the board of the Signo Foundation, Member in the board of the media group Mentor Medier, and Member in the board of the media company Vårt Land, Deputy Member in the board of the Foundation Asker og Bærum Budstikke.

Former positions, among others: Chairman of the professional association Netthoder (NONA), Member in the board of Scanpix Norway, Member in the board of Fritz Moen's Research Foundation, Member in the Editorial Board of Bistandsaktuelt, Press Officer for the Norwegian championship in cross country skiing (2010).

Academic positions: Managing Editor for book reviews at Norsk medietidsskrift (NMT), Member in the board of Centre for Interdisciplinary Media Research (STM).

Awards:

  • "Prisen for fremragende studiekvalitet" [Prize for excellent quality in academic teaching], Gjøvik University College, 2014.
  • "Top Student Award" among the grading master students, USIU, 2005.
