Background and activities
Kim is a doctoral researcher in Humanities and the Arts for the '3R Oceans' Project, which seeks to chart how cultural conditions underpin the use of the oceans. The Project investigates the relationships between the Representations, Resources and Regulation of the High Seas and the deep ocean bed.
Kim's research establishes a critical engagement with the media ecology of marine plastic pollution. This is achieved by juxtaposing media messaging with, for example, the historical legal narrative of flotsam and salvage, and the status quo in marine biological research regarding microplastics.
