Leoni van der Vaart

Research
My early research efforts involved employees’ psychological contracts (i.e. expectations on an individual level) and leadership styles and their consequences for employees (i.e. attitudes, behaviours, and well-being). My more recent research agenda revolves around (a) motivation (especially from a self-determination perspective), (b) the various individual (e.g. differences in individuals’ motivational expectations and perceptions), and (c) contextual (e.g. the need for supportive behaviours from leaders and colleagues) factors contributing to optimal motivation. It also revolves around the individual (e.g. well-being) and/or organisational (e.g. performance) outcomes of motivation. These outcomes matter not only for individual and organisational success but also for job creation.
