Background and activities

About Magnar Breivik:

 

– Academic degrees in piano and musicology from The Norwegian Academy of Music, the University of Oslo, and the University of Trondheim/Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Master classes in piano and research visits to Yale University, Kurt Weill Foundation for Music, New York,  Deutsche Filminstitut, Frankfurt am Main and Deutsche Kinemathek, Berlin.

– Teaching activities cover music history, film music, music aesthetics, and musical analysis.

– Current research interests include Kurt Weill, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, music from 1890 to WWI, music in exile, music in the Weimar Republic and in Nazi Germany, musical theatre, and film music. 

– Guest lecturer at academic institutions such as Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Universidad de Valladolid, and Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

– 2005-2009: Head of the Department of Music.
