About

Margrethe Bruun Vaage is professor of film studies. She took up a position at NTNU in 2024, returning to Trondheim after working for 11 years at the University of Kent in the UK. Her main area of research is cognitive film theory. She explores the spectator's engagement with fictional films and television series, and more specifically the imagination, the emotions and the moral psychology of fiction. Her books include The Antihero in American Television  (Routledge, 2016) and The Female Avenger, Women’s Anger and Rape-Revenge Film and Television  (Edinburgh UP, 2024). She has published widely in journals such as the British Journal of Aesthetics, Midwest Studies in Philosophy and Screen, as well as in The Routledge Encylopedia of Film Theory and anthologies such as The Routledge Encylopedia of Film Theory, Cognitive Media Theory and The Oxford Handbook of Cognitive Literary Studies.
