Background and activities

My primary research interests are the historical legacies of past states. For example, what does it mean for Nigeria that it is host to over thirty previously independent states, while Morocco has only know the Moroccan state (besides colonial rule)? Does it matter that some areas of the world did not have any prior experience of statehood before being colonized?

Additionally, I have contributed to the Anatomy of Resistance Campaigns (ARC)-project, which collect data on organizations engaging in political dissent (both violent and non-violent).

Academic interests: Peace, conflict, civil conflict, political economy, R, GIS.
