About
I am a historian and PhD candidate at the Department of Teacher Education at NTNU. My research interests include Jewish history, migration history, memory studies, and the relationship between place, history, and belonging.
My PhD project examines Jewish migration from Eastern Europe to Norway between 1880 and 1920 and how this migration has subsequently been remembered and represented. I explore migrants' transnational connections, the places and communities they helped shape in Norway, and how later generations have interpreted their experiences. Drawing on interview material, memoirs, historical mapping, museum exhibitions, and historical writing, the project investigates the role and significance of migration in understandings of Norwegian-Jewish history.
In my master's thesis, completed in 2023, I examined how teachers and museum educators understand the concept of "historical consciousness" and apply it in teaching and museum education.
Research
My current PhD project is titled "Migration and Memory: Perspectives on Jewish Migration from Eastern Europe to Norway (1880–1920)."
How does migration become part of a community's history and self-understanding? The project examines both Jewish migrants' experiences and how these have been passed down and given meaning over time. Through studies of oral history material, memoirs, places, museums, and historical writing, it explores which aspects of migration are emphasized, reinterpreted, or relegated to the background.
The project is supervised by Jon Reitan, Jørgen Klein, and Trond Risto.
