Background and activities

Michael Cheffena is a Professor at NTNU Gjøvik, Faculty of Engineering. He conducts research and teaching within the field of radio communications and signal processing for wireless communication systems. His research activities are mainly centered on issues related to antenna and wave propagation for wireless communication systems and their system aspects. It incorporates measurement campaigns and analyses of measurement data collected from various propagation experiments, development of theoretical and empirical channel and prediction models, system solutions and performance evaluation of various wireless communication systems. It can primarily be divided into four main areas: i) Antenna and wave propagations; ii) Land mobile satellite systems; iii) Wireless sensor networks (WSN), with focus on industrial WSN and wireless body area networks; iv) Measurements and system aspects of wireless systems. In recent few years, he have also been interested in: i) Antenna Sensors; ii) Millimeter wave and massive multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) techniques; iii) Cooperative communications; iv) Physical-layer security of wireless systems; v) Game theory for optimizing the security of wireless systems; vi) Machine learning techniques for solving problems in wireless systems; vii) Artificial Intelligence enabled reconfigurable radio systems. He has a Ph.D in telecommunications (2008), M.Sc in signal processing for communication systems (2005) and B.Sc in computer science (2003).
