Adolescent loneliness- Trends, Associations, and the Physical and Mental health outcomes from Adolescence till Early Adulthood
Nayan Parlikar is a PhD candidate at the Department of Public Health and Nursing within the research group - The Health and Welfare of Children and Youth.
Nayan’s PhD project focusses primarily on the element of Loneliness and the short-term and long-term consequences of loneliness on health and quality of life (QOL) among adolescents and early adults. The initial aim with this PhD project is to describe loneliness, its patterns, trends, and levels within individual adolescent groups in the Norwegian adolescent population over 20 years.
Secondly, this project aims to delineate and investigate the longitudinal associations of Loneliness in adolescence and Mental well-being and QOL among the subsequent early adulthood phase. Moreover, research on the longitudinal associations between Loneliness and Self-rated health and Multimorbidity from adolescence to early adulthood will be targeted to present a well-rounded and elaborate picture of mental and physical health among adolescents and the youth.
The research goals will be addressed by using data from The HUNT Study.
Research interests
Nayan’s research interests are in the field of Women and Child health, Epidemiology, Medical Statistics and Quantitative research methods.
Background
Nayan has her Medical Doctor’s degree from NTR University of Health Sciences in India and is an Emergency Medicine specialist. She has her master’s degree from NTNU within Pain and Palliative care within Breast cancer survivors.
Activities
Nayan is an active member in the Phd representative comittee and is on the position of Social chair for the Department of Public Health (ISM). Her responsibility includes among other things to organize and arrange social and most importantly professional meet ups for Phd candidates. Moreover, she can also be apporached by the Phd candidates at ISM with their problems and doubts. Being a foreiger herself, she encourages and has helped foreign Phd candidates with their logistical issues in adjusting to a new country, culture and language.
