About

Omar K. Sabri is a civil engineer, programmer, researcher, and Associate Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at NTNU. His professional background includes experience as a programmer with the United Nations and as former Deputy National Regional Coordinator for UN-HABITAT at the Baghdad headquarters.

His academic work focuses on infrastructure projects, construction engineering, rock engineering, conflict management, sustainability, digitalization, and Lean thinking. Since 2009, he has taught core courses at bachelor level in construction engineering and rock engineering. He has also contributed to master-level teaching in construction engineering and engineering management.

As academic coordinator for the bachelor’s in civil engineering, Construction Engineering major, Omar leads curriculum development and works to maintain strong links between education, research, and industry practice. His teaching emphasizes active and student-centered learning, real-world case studies, digital tools, and flipped classroom methods.

Omar’s research bridges practice and academia, with a particular focus on conflict prevention, partnering models, dispute management, sustainable infrastructure, AI and digitalization in construction, Lean construction, underground energy solutions, and civil engineering education. He has authored several peer-reviewed journal articles, developed frameworks such as the TVINNSAM (strategic decision-making framework) and 3FF (mixed method in scientific research) approaches, and contributed to public debate through national media and professional outreach.

His broader research and writing interests are centered on three main areas: infrastructure projects, construction disputes, and teaching in civil engineering. These areas connect his work in construction management, infrastructure development, sustainability, safety, digitalization, Lean thinking, and industry collaboration.

Omar supervises bachelor and master students in civil engineering, construction engineering, infrastructure projects, and construction management. He focuses on helping students develop clear research questions, relevant methods, and industry-oriented projects with practical value. He is also an active member of a PhD group that discusses challenges, progress, and research development among PhD candidates.

Omar is also an Official Nominator for the VinFuture Prize and an active reviewer for international journals. He is committed to combining pedagogical development, research-based teaching, and industry collaboration to improve learning outcomes and project practices in the construction sector.

Motto: 🌱 Integrating AI and Lean Thinking for Sustainable Infrastructure
