Background and activities
In my PhD I aim to study the metabolic rate of both the brown long-eared bat (Plecotus auritus) and the northern bat (Eptesicus nilssonii) at several locations along a latitudinal gradient in Norway. Part of my goal is to measure their energy metabolism at different temperatures. As this will be performed at the outer edge of the species' distribution range, I am hoping to find out how the populations living at the edge cope with the conditions that limit their distribution. Additionally, I intend to see how stress hormones differ between populations, as well as environmental variables such as season and temperature.
My supervisors are Clare Stawski, Jonathan Wright and Katrine Eldegard (NMBU).
