Siamak Karimi
About
Biography
Siamak Karimi was born in Shiraz, Iran, in 1994. He received his B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran in 2016, and his M.Sc. in power electronics from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran in 2019. He is currently working towards his Ph.D. in the department of marine technology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim, Norway, within the Centres for Research-Based Innovation (SFI) Smart Maritime.

- Onboard power systems architectures
- Design of battery charging infrastructures for electrified transportation, especially ships
- Power and energy management systems
- Design, modeling, and control of power electronics systems
Ph.D. project
The Shore-to-Ship Charging (S2SC) systems play a key role in the operation of battery-powered marine vessels. Moving towards the realization of zero-emission sea transportation, the development of all-electric and plug-in hybrid electric ships is becoming the focus of the marine industry and academia. Moreover, by growing the number of battery-powered vessels, the ports must be prepared to be able to provide charging facilities for more than one route and one vessel at the same time. Therefore, establishing a research-based design framework for such systems considering the relevant performance factors can significantly contribute to sustainable propulsion.
