About

Steffen Bakker (1991) is an associate professor in quantitative logistics at the department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management (IØT). He has a MSc in Econometrics and Operations Research from the University of Groningen and a PhD in Industrial Economics and Technology Management from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

His research interests focus on the application of operations research methods to transport- and energy-systems.

Research

AID - Norwegian centre on AI-Decisions

The goal of the AID center is to improve AI for decision-making through research and real-world applications, making sure it is effective, safe, and trustworthy. We focus on developing methods for applications in transport.

FME MarTrans - Norwegian R&D centre for Maritime Energy Transition

Develop a decarbonization roadmap for the maritime sector, using more detailed representations of the maritime sector and corresponding fuel supply chains in energy system modeling.

FME NTRANS - Norwegian Centre for Energy Transition Strategies

In this project we analyze integrated transport and energy systems to study decarbonization pathways, addressing challenges long-term uncertainty, large-scale transport optimization, and regional policy analysis.

FOOD2FEED - From food waste to sustainable feed with circular logistics and bioconversion through larvae.

We focus mainly on network design issues.

PROCITY - Profitable city-friendly micromobility

PROCITY develops optimization- and machine learning–based planning tools to jointly optimize rebalancing, maintenance, and energy management for micromobility fleets, enabling cross-operator collaboration and improved operational profitability.

TRANSPLAN

TRANSPLAN develops knowledge, models, and tools for transport planning aligned with Norway’s climate and nature goals, supporting effective, cross-sector transitions toward a low-emission society.

AutoPort - When AI optimizes port logistics and management.

AutoPort applies OR and AI to optimize logistics in small ports through models for scheduling, coordination, and strategic planning, using optimization, metaheuristics, and simulation to plan and adapt under uncertainty.
