About the course
Course content
This is a Specialization course, either in the form of a project written for a company with a logistics-related problem. The topic and outline of the project should be approved by the appointed supervisor. Medio september, the students must submit a pre-report, which must be approved before continuing to write the full report.
Lectures in the course consist of:
- Introduction
- Pre-project
- How to conduct a literature review
- Report writing
Learning outcome
Learning outcome: Good knowledge of a chosen topic in the field of engineering logistics, as well as having improved its capabilities for professional analysis and written presentation through the writing process. After completing the course, the candidate shall have the following overall learning outcome:
Knowledge The candidate will learn to specialize in a specific topic within the field of industrial logistics. This includes: collecting data, analyzing data, conducting a literature review, as well as combining this with the general curriculum from the study program.
Skills The candidate shall be able to conduct a project with the preparation of the project plan, systematic processing of information, as well as writing a project report according to academic structures for report writing. For the self-study, the candidate should be able to remediate and impart knowledge through an essay.
General Skills The candidate will learn how to deal with industry partners and fellow students.
Learning methods and activities
Students perform group-based project work with 2 -3 students in each group, under guidance of a supervisor. Students should suggest a topic/problem themselves, and as far as possible take the initiative with contacting industry partners. The project proposal and partner company shall be approved by the course responsible at NTNU. In case of writing an essay, students should normally work individually. Student groups are allocated a supervisor. Students will prepare a pre-study report with a description of tasks, problem formulation, objectives, progress plan, and so on. The deadline is given at the start of the study. Approval of the pre-project and presentation is mandatory for submitting a final report.
Further on evaluation
It is required that the pre-project report be approved in order to be able to carry out the project task.
Presentation of the pre-project report is mandatory.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Logistics - Engineering (FTHINGLOG)
Recommended previous knowledge
Logistic knowledge equivalent of finished second year at the Bachelor in Logistics Engineering.
