More about research projects:
GENDIM (2019-2021)
GENDIM aims to provide new and valuable insights into the gender dynamics underlying the pervasive gender imbalance among university academics. In this manner, it supports the ongoing efforts to improve the imbalance. The projects contribute by using an innovative approach of exploring how so-called epistemic living spaces, in which gender is intertwined, are formatted through the mediation of policies, strategies and practices at national, local and individual arenas. In particular, the project will provide new and needed knowledge about the dynamics between these arenas. This also allows new insights into how policies and measures are shaping and being shaped by practices at all arenas. Such knowledge is vital to develop new measures and make gender balance measures more effective. A secondary objective is to contribute to Norwegian and international scholarship on gender balance, gender diversity and gender dynamics within scientific institutions.
Gender balance from below (2016-2019) http://www.ntnu.edu/genderbalance
The main objective of the project “Making Gender Balance from Below” (BALANCE) is to help create gender balance in senior positions (full professors) at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) through working to develop a culture of inclusion at the departmental level. This contrasts to the common top-down approaches addressing such issues.
Our project aims to help departments at NTNU to implement local actions to improve the gender balance. This is to be achieved by addressing local theories about or ways of understanding the issue of gender balance among university professors. This includes ideas for measures as well as processing experience with the implementation of measures. This should pave the way for necessary cultural change that will improve the quality of the environment for research and teaching and make the culture more inclusive. Furthermore, the project aims to improve local human resource management to consider more systematic gender concerns with respect to recruitment, career development, and mentoring.
BREV (Bringing environmental knowledge in to action. Environmental knowledge management in Norwegian local governments 2014-2017)
The primary goal of BREV is to pursue the concept of environmental knowledge management in local governments in Norway in order to study practices and the production of meaning with respect to the enactment of environmental knowledge. This concept is an innovation and represents a focus on learning, knowledge sharing, interdisciplinarity and the work performed to bring environmental knowledge into plans and strategies. Briefly, the project study how environmental knowledge is acquired, shared and used in local governments. The concept of environmental knowledge management may also be depicted as an “epistemic machinery”, which includes practices, regulations, discourses, technology, policies, values and cultures. The secondary objective is to study how interdisciplinarity is performed as part of environmental knowledge management. How is the relationship between a diversity of professional and disciplinary knowledge reflected upon, managed and practiced?
