About
Xin Liu is a PhD Candidate at the Department of Energy and Process Engineering (EPT), having joined in September 2025. His research focuses on the in situ microscopic study of alloy-type anodes, seeking to uncover the fundamental mechanisms of degradation and performance in next-generation batteries. He works under the supervision of Professor Steven T. Boles.
Background
Prior to joining NTNU, Xin served as a Senior Materials R&D Engineer at CATL, the global leader in lithium-ion battery manufacturing. In this role, he specialized in the development and industrialization of advanced carbon anodes.
He holds dual Master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS). His academic work is centered on battery interface electrochemistry and the advancement of next-generation energy storage materials.
