Green Office provides funding for green projects and activities. The scheme is part of NTNU’s commitment to sustainability.
Do you have an idea for an event, an academic initiative or another project that could help make NTNU more sustainable? Or are you writing a master’s or bachelor’s thesis on sustainability or sustainable development? Apply to the Green Fund!
Who can apply
Students, staff and student organizations at NTNU can apply for funding from the Green Fund. Applications must be submitted by a department, faculty or student organization.
What can you apply for
Green projects
You can apply for up to NOK 30,000 for new initiatives and activities that promote engagement with NTNU’s sustainability work.
We are particularly looking for projects and initiatives that:
- involve both students and staff
- support the goals of NTNU’s Environmental Action Plan 2020–2030 (PDF)
- support NTNU’s Strategy 2035
- connect knowledge to action
- create lasting change and positive impact in society
Master’s theses in sustainability
You can receive a grant of NOK 10,000 for a master’s thesis that meets the following criteria:
- The applicant must be a master’s student in 1st, 2nd or 3rd semester at NTNU.
- The master’s thesis must focus primarily on sustainability / sustainable development and be linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. These links must be specified in the application.
- The application must include a complete outline of the master’s thesis, signed by the supervisor.
- The completed master’s thesis must meet the same criteria as the submitted outline. Once the thesis has been completed and submitted, a copy must be submitted to the Green Office.
- If the application is successful, only one grant will be awarded per master’s thesis. If a thesis has multiple authors, the grant must be shared among them.
- The master’s thesis must be completed at NTNU.
How to apply
Apply through one of two online application forms, describing either
- your project, including its purpose, timeline, and budget
- your master’s thesis
You will then be contacted by the Green Office for a follow-up discussion or a decision on your application.
Recipients of funding agree that their projects or theses may be featured in NTNU’s sustainability-related communications and outreach activities. Upon completion, a brief report on the project must be prepared and submitted to the Green Office.

When can you apply
The application forms are open year-round. Applications are processed after the submission deadlines of 1 November and 15 April.
