Task 3.1

Task 3.1   Scaling between different materials used in the verification tests and for the prototype turbine

The major objective of this project activity is to develop a sediment erosion model incorporating scaling between different materials to be used for the verification tests and for the prototype turbine.

A high speed pot tester will be used to evaluate the erosion wear characteristics of different target materials. Indian standard sand (99.9% quartz) will be used for suspended solids. The impact angle, velocity, particle size and concentration will be varied to develop a correlation for estimating the erosion wear. The correlation will include the effect of target material properties also. Thus scaling of erosion of different target materials can be performed using the correlation. The correlation will be developed in a form to incorporate in the numerical model developed earlier.
