Electrical Energy

The Department of Electrical Energy was one of NTH's seven departments at the start of the university college in 1910. There were new subject areas, very relevant for both telecommunications and energy, for which this department was given responsibility. Industrial travel based on electricity development symbolized the construction of the new Norway and represented a significant economic investment for a poor country. At the same time, the development of telephone and telegraph connections had long been an important task for the country. Electrical engineering was a new and distinctive technical discipline. Unlike most other technical disciplines, where we find traces in craft traditions in earlier cultural eras, electrical engineering was new and established through scientific research. In 2023 the Department of Electric Power Engineering changed it's name to Department of Electric Energy.
