14th International Meeting on Thermodiffusion

Due to the rapid development of the pandemic, we have decided to postpone IMT14. The meeting will be rescheduled for a later time, either after Summer or in 2021, but at the moment it is not possible to assess the risk sufficiently well to decide a new time. Updates will be posted on this page.

Submitted abstracts will be considered withdrawn. Invitations to submit new abstacts will be announced when a new time has been set.

If you have made a reservation at Comfort Hotel Park (or any other hotel in Trondheim), you must cancel the reservation yourself. We have informed the hotel that the originally scheduled meeting has been cancelled, so they are prepared for your cancellation.

If you have made travel reservations and need documentation that the meeting has been cancelled, please send an email to bjorn.hafskjold@ntnu.no and we will provide an official statement including the reason for the cancellation.

We are sorry for the inconvenience of the situation, but in the interest of helping everybody to stay healthy, we believe that this is a necesasary action to take.




The 14th International meeting is part of a series which has been arranged every second year since 1994. Last time was in 2018 in London, organized by Prof. Fernando Bresme and his colleagues at Imperial College. The next meeting will be held at Norwegian University of Science and Technology - NTNU, organized by Prof. emeritus Bjørn Hafskjold and his colleagues.

The topics of the conference will follow the traditional pattern of

  • Theoretical, experimental, and numerical methods to investigate thermodiffusion in binary, ternary and multicomponent mixtures

  • Non equilibrium thermodynamics of fluids under thermal stress

  • Non-equilibrium fluctuations in thermally inhomogeneous fluids

  • Macromolecular solutions, airborne particles, colloidal suspensions, and biological fluids: the thermophoresis case

  • Thermodiffusion in porous media and enhanced oil recovery

  • Soret-driven hydrodynamic instabilities and convective patterns

  • Thermodiffusion effects in crystal growth and polymer processing

  • Thermodiffusion in microgravity

  • Thermodiffusion in biological transport

  • Applications of thermal diffusion
