Course content

The course provides an introduction to strategy and marketing models as a starting point for how real estate companies create value. The course provides an introduction to financial management and how financial management can take place in a strategic context. This implies an introduction to financial contexts and financial understanding, including the structure of the profit and loss account and the balance sheet, company profitability, portfolio, liquidity and financial situation, which crisis symptoms should be looked after inside and outside the company and what the company can do to improve the financial situation . This is linked to current issues for real estate companies through practical examples and relevant cases

Learning outcome

KNOWLEDGE - The students

• have basic knowledge of strategy, marketing, financial contexts and financial management in a strategic context in a real estate market

• have knowledge of strategy and marketing models as a starting point for real estate value creation, including industry and stakeholder analyzes, analyzes of the environment and relationships, resource and organizational analysis and implementation of customized strategy and marketing measures.

• have good knowledge of how income statements and balance sheets are structured

• have knowledge of financial management and how financial management can take place in a strategic context for real estate companies, including knowledge of concepts such as alternative costs, sunk costs, decision-relevant costs, coverage contributions, cash flow, present value and accrual.

• have basic knowledge of key financial management tools such as budget, contribution calculations, the balance equation, and present value calculations.

 

SKILLS - The students

• can perform basic strategic analyzes of a company on an independent basis

• are able to analyze the role of the company in a corporate network and understand value creation through corporate marketing

• are able to assess the profitability, liquidity and financial situation of real estate companies and projects and propose relevant measures

• are able to analyze profitability, portfolio, liquidity and the financial situation

• are able to assess crisis symptoms and what can be done to improve the financial situation

 

 

GENERAL UNDERSTANDING - The students

• understand the basic mechanisms of economics and value creation and can apply this in a strategic perspective

• have a good understanding of the real estate company's goals and frameworks and can develop relevant marketing models and strategies

• master the terms of the subject area and can disseminate academic material in a professional and scientific manner

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, exercises and the use of an enterprise simulator

Compulsory assignments

  • Exercise

Further on evaluation

4 hours written exam. Obligatory participation in a business simulation exercise. The examination lasts for 2 days, and the information about the timing will be communicated at the beginning of the semester. The exercise should be approved in order to take the exam.

Postponed written exams (repeat exams) may be replaced by oral exams.

Specific conditions

Compulsory activities from previous semester may be approved by the department.
