About the course

Course content

The Internship module is available as an elective course in the UEP program. Students can choose this option as a base for an internship- based Master’s Thesis in the last semester. The candidate, in collaboration with the program staff, will identify a suitable practical internship for a minimum period of 10 weeks in the spring (semester 2)\fall (semester 3) . The internship should be with organisations/institutions working in the field of urban planning and development, or post-disaster reconstruction, which are among the potential employees of the graduates of the programme. The course can be taken only once in the course of the study program.

A contract with the organization/institution is required and the student has to deliver a report according to UEPs internship report guideline.

Learning outcome

This depends on the specific internship, but will include a selection of: Knowledge of organizational concepts, practices, cultures and their limitations; Desk-to and field research, Planning and Design skills; Knowledge of organizational design and administration and finance; Knowledge of specific methods of project design and implementation; Dealing with clients; Working under time- and budget-lines, Working in teams; Communication and writing skills; Implementing research and report writing, Interdisciplinary skills.

Learning methods and activities

Practical work in an organisation, consultations, report writing.

This course is offered to international master's students. Language of instruction is English.

Further on evaluation

The report will be evaluated based on its content and form as specified in the internship report guideline.

Should the student fail the course they will be required to resubmit their assignment to be re-evaluated the next semester.
