About

About the course

Course content

This course is primarily intended for exchange students visiting the Department of ICT and Natural Sciences (IIR) who wants to do their final year engineering thesis project during the exchange. Students studying automation, computer engineering, artificial intelligence, electrical engineering, mechatronics, robotics, cybernetics, or other related fields can take this course, provided they get approval from the academic director of their study programme.

In this course, students complete an individual self-study project under supervision, with work load corresponding to the number of credit points of the course. The project is individually adapted to the student, and a project plan must prepared by the student in collaboration with a supervisor. The project plan must describe the selected content, learning outcomes, learning activities, and content of the portfolio for assessment. For students on exchange, it is particularly important to tailor the project such that it can replace the final year thesis project of the student's own study programme.

The project will generally be completed as an internship in collaboration with an industrial partner but this is not a requirement.

When there are more than one student with identical or similar projects, supervision may be provided to the students as a group.

The content of this course as described in the project plan must not result in credits reduction towards other courses the student has completed or will complete. Acceptance to the course must be approved by the course coordinator and the academic director of the study programme of the student.

Learning outcome

The learning outcome must be described in an individual project plan that must be approved by both the course coordinator and the academic director of the study programme of the student.

Learning methods and activities

The learning activities must be described in an individual project plan that must be approved by both the course coordinator and the academic director of the study programme of the student.

Compulsory assignments

Further on evaluation

The final grade is based on an overall evaluation of the portfolio, which consists of work that is carried out, documented and digitally submitted during the semester.

The portfolio will typically consist of a project report supplemented with other relevant deliverables.

There will be mandatory work, which as a minimum includes a plan for the project.

There is no resit exam. If a student retakes the course, previously delivered works in the portfolio may be reused.

Upon request, the final version of the approved project plan can be signed by the course coordinator and provided to students who pass the course. This signed document then serve the purpose as a course certificate describing the course.

Specific conditions

Required previous knowledge

The course has no prerequisites. As long as the course will not result in credits reduction and a suitable supervisor can be appointed, any student in a technological study programme can take the course upon approval from both the course coordinator and from the academic director of the study programme of the student.

Course materials

There is no standard course material available. However, students will be provided with resources tailored to their individual project plan as needed.
