About the course

Course content

The curriculum consists of texts from modern literary theory, aesthetic theory, poetics, genre theory, theory of interpretation, as well as from relevant debates in literary studies. It may also include a history of comparative literature as academic discipline and theory of literary history. As a whole the curriculum must have a broad academic scope. The curriculum shall consist of approximately 600 pages.

Learning outcome

Candidates will have obtained the following general competence after successfully completing this course:

Knowledge:

- The candidate has specialized theoretical and methodological knowledge which can be used in reflecting on one's own and other's practical research, as well as a tool for further research

Proficiency:

The candidate has the ability to:

- analyse and assess theoretical and methodological perspectives in literary works

- assess and compare analyses of fiction

- present and reflect on literary science in practice

Learning methods and activities

Seminars. Students are expected to participate by making oral presentations, comments, etc.

Assessment: 7 days home examination, approx. 3500-4000 words.
