About the course

Course content

During the course, students shall, in groups of 2-3 persons, produce a written report based on a predetermined topic. The report will be based on either a literature review, an analysis of experimental data, or a collaboration project with a business or organization. Through lectures and group supervision, students will be educated in literature search and essay writing. The essay constitutes the examination and shall be between 4000 and 5000 words.

Learning outcome

Knowledge

The student has

  • basic theoretical and methodological knowledge of a limited topic within Movement Science
  • knowledge of various sources, relevant subject databases and guidelines for the use of sources in their own work
  • knowledge of various study designs and the differences between them
  • knowledge of planning, executing and evaluating a project

Skills

The student can

  • formulate, explore and answer a scientific problem
  • read research articles bases on different study designs, assess the quality and interpret the results
  • connect theory and empiricism in movement science research work
  • present and discuss relevant theory and empirical writing in a precise and logical way
  • cooperate and communicate with fellow students, supervisors and other collaboration partners

General competence

The student

  • can master basic requirements in academic writing with regard to being able to argue for academic positions, choices and priorities, as well as follow standards for source reference, citation use and layout for reference list
  • can integrate previously acquired knowledge and be able to acquire new knowledge in solving a problem
  • can plan, carry out and complete a written assignment at the scientific level of a bachelor's degree

Approval of compulsory activities in BEV2901 is only possible if all sub-activities have been approved.

Evaluation

  • The bachelor's thesis is carried out in groups of 2-3 students.
  • The bachelor's thesis must follow the guidelines for the bachelor's thesis that will be published on the course webpage on Blackboard.
  • Exam registration requires approved teaching registration in the same semester.
  • In cases of illness or other pressing reasons, the department can grant an extended deadline. Relevant documentation must be submitted.
  • If a student receives the grade F (fail) he or she can re-take the course the next academic year. The student will not have the opportunity to submit a new or re-worked assignment in the same academic year (i.e. there is no re-sit exam).
  • Students who take the course a second time must re-do all compulsory activities and must submit a new assignment. It is not possible to re-submit a re-worked version of a previously submitted assignment.
