The candidate should be able to:
- explain key challenges in the planning and design of water, stormwater, and wastewater pipeline networks.
- explain concepts related to open channel flow and flow types in culverts.
- design and simulate complete water, stormwater, and wastewater pipeline networks.
- design and simulate conventional and nature-based solutions for stormwater management.
- assess and select conventional and nature-based stormwater management solutions to reduce runoff and pollution.
- explain operational monitoring and leak detection.
- explain rehabilitation and renewal processes.
- explain sensor technologies for monitoring water, stormwater, and wastewater pipeline networks.
Skills
The candidate should be able to:
- apply hydrological principles to design and analyze stormwater pipeline networks.
- apply hydraulic principles to design and analyze complete water distribution and wastewater pipeline networks.
- operate according to the three-step strategy for stormwater management and calculate the effects of measures.
- design measures to manage road and tunnel water.
- perform simulations and analyses of complete water and wastewater pipeline networks using modeling tools.
- use analytical tools to assess hydraulic capacity and culvert design.
- perform simulations and analyses of conventional and nature-based stormwater management solutions using modeling tools.
- explain sustainable choices of pipe materials.
- explain operational monitoring and leak detection.
- explain rehabilitation and renewal processes.
- be familiar with smart technologies for monitoring water, stormwater, and wastewater pipeline networks.

Learning methods and activities
Learning Methods
Lectures and exercises. Use of digital software tools.
Exercises in modeling water, stormwater, and wastewater solutions with emphasis on interdisciplinary understanding and innovative competence.
Mandatory Activities
- Mandatory written assignments.
- Mandatory digital exercises in 3D modeling.
Further on evaluation
4 mandatory exercises. All exercises must be approved to be admitted to the exam.
In case of a re-sit exam written exam may be changed into oral.
