Learning outcome

After completing the subject, you should be able to describe the main features of a construction process, which actors are involved as well as their tasks and responsibilities, and the external framework conditions that apply to the construction process.

Furthermore, you must be able to visualize the building digitally, and explain the functionality of the various building parts. This means that you must have

  • knowledge of the construction process and of legislation, standards and other conditions that regulate external and internal conditions in a construction project
  • knowledge of the building's functions, external and internal stresses and the most common materials used
  • skills in using software for the digitization of construction works
  • overall understanding of moisture and heat transport in buildings
  • insight into the environmental challenges the construction industry faces and which parameters affect the environmental consequences of buildings

Learning methods and activities

Emphasis is placed on projects as a form of work where the students in teams must design a preliminary project for a more precisely defined building project. The students are taught, guided and followed up locally on the individual campus.

Compulsory assignments

  • Laboratory project, in groups
  • Individual tasks
  • Oral presentation of the project

Further on evaluation

3 compulsory papers:

  • Compulsory work 1: Laboratory project, in groups
  • Compulsory work 2: A set of individual tasks
  • Compulsory work 3: Oral presentation of the project, in groups

The final grade is set on the basis of two partial assessments:

  • Part assessment 1: Written school exam 4 hours. Counts 60%
  • Partial assessment 2: Project, group. Counts 40%

Both parts must be passed to receive a final grade in the course. If the project exam is not passed, the group can submit a new and improved report 2 months after the ordinary exam deadline.

If there is a re-sit exam, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
