Course content
Reinforced concrete constructions according to the Eurocodes (NS-EN):
- design of slabs, beams and columns.
- design of foundations, basement/ retaining walls.
- Detailing and reinforcement guidance.
- Use of design tools
Learning outcome
Knowledge and skills:
The candidate
- has the necessary knowledge to explain both the empirical and theoretical basis for the Eurocodes (NS-EN) for the design of concrete structures.
- has sufficient knowledge of Eurocodes (NS-EN) to be able to use it to design/check reinforced concrete structures.
- have sufficient knowledge to design and check reinforcement placement and anchorage length in concrete structures in accordance to Eurocodes (NS-EN).
- can use digital tools to design/check load-bearing construction parts and to draw simple reinforcement drawings and reinforcement specification.
- has sufficient insight into the various safety factors to assess structures from an ethical perspective.
General competence:
- After having completed the subject the student will have very good insight into the capacity of concrete structures.
- have acquired the necessary technical terms of the subject
Learning methods and activities
Scheduled time:
lectures: 45 hours; organized guidance: 30 hours; work with compulsory assignments: 105 hours; other preparation: 40 hours; a total of 220 hours.
Compulsory work requirements:
- a project assignment that must be passed, group work or individually;
- and 4 to 6 exercises, all of which except one must be approved.
