About the course

Course content

Design of timber structures according to NS-EN 1995-1-1 and NS-EN 1995-1-2 in ultimate, serviceability, and accidental limit states.

Design of: Beam and column systems, connections, special failure modes, details, bracing systems, components against fire.

Learning outcome

Knowledge and skills:

The candidate

- has the necessary knowledge of the properties of wood to assess how these affect the capacity of wood components and joints consisting of wood and steel connectors.

‐ has sufficient knowledge of European standards (NS-EN) to apply them to design and check wood components in both serviceability and ultimate limit states.

‐ has sufficient knowledge to design and check nodes with various fasteners according to European standards (NS-EN).

- can use digital tools to design and check wood components.

‐ has sufficient knowledge to prepare production documentation.

- has sufficient insight into the various safety factors to assess structures from an ethical perspective.

General competance:

- After having completed the subject the student will have very good insight into the carrying capacity of wooden structures.

- have acquired the necessary technical language of the subject.

Learning methods and activities

Scheduled time: lectures: 45 hours; organized guidance: 60 hours; work with compulsory assignments: 120 hours; other preparation: 50 hours; a total of 275 hours.

Compulsory work requirements: 4 to 6 exercises, all of which except one must be approved.

The course is designed for online students.
