About the course

Course content

Bachelor thesis for exchange students in the field of civil engineering. The topic is decided upon agreement.

The deadline for signing of the agreement is 1st October in order to register for the bachelor thesis in the spring semester. The guidelines, the agreement form and information about supervision will be sent after the request from the exchange student to the course responsible.

  • can identify, formulate and solve a relevant engineering problem
  • can apply knowledge and relevant results from research and development work to solve theoretical, technical and practical issues within the bachelor's thesis and justify his/her choices
  • can apply engineering methods and be able to work methodically
  • can document and communicate an engineering work
  • can plan and carry out an engineering work

General competence - The candidate

  • conveys professional knowledge to different target groups both in writing and orally in English
  • have insight into scientific honesty and understanding of ethical issues
  • have insight into the environmental, health, societal and economic consequences of products and solutions within their field and can put these in an ethical perspective and a life cycle perspective
  • integrates previously acquired knowledge and is able to acquire new knowledge in solving a problem

Learning methods and activities

The working form is as described in the bachelor's manual and is an independent student-driven project work in which process and results should be shared digitally. Outreach activities, data collection, literature studies etc. will be required in connection with the task solution. The project will be managed (administered) and regular meetings will be held between the group, supervisor (s) and client, where work and progress are discussed.

Required activities

  • Pre-project plan.
  • Documentation of the worker process should include status reports, meeting requests, meeting minutes, and timesheets.
  • Oral presentation in English during the process.
  • Preparation of records (poster) either in the final or during the process, as well as a scientific article according to supervisors guidelines
  • Oral presentation of the submitted bachelor's thesis.

Further on evaluation

The bachelor thesis is evaluated accorded to guidelines in agreement with home university.
