About the course

Course content

Dramaturgy 1 gives students a basic introduction to dramaturgical concepts and perspectives in the performing arts and other relevant areas, such as film, music, dance and other related medias. In the course, analytical skills are trained, applying dramaturgical concepts and perspectives related to specific study objects. The course prepares the students for dramaturgic analysis and communication transgressing the boarders of historic separated forms of art

Learning outcome

The student will have knowledge of

  • key dramaturgical concepts and perspectives.
  • how to discuss and reflect on the concept of dramaturgy related to different contexts.
  • how to demonstrate an understanding of dramaturgical analysis as both theoretical and theoretical-empirical academic work.

The student will have to know how to

  • apply dramaturgical concepts and perspectives in analysis of dramaturgical processes.
  • reflect on and assess the potential for dramaturgical thinking in the student's contemporay surroundings.
  • be able to find, evaluate and refer to information and subject matter, and present this in a way that it brings resolvment to an problem.

Learning methods and activities

The teaching consists of lectures, seminars and etudes.

The students are obliged to familiarize themselves with the results of compulsory assignments via Blackboard. Students are obliged to stay informed about current messages from the department or subject teacher via Blackboard.

Further on evaluation

3 days home exam. This should be approx. 2000 words and open for practical audiovisual examinations. The assessment is passed/not passed. Before the exam, compulsory activity must be approved by the course coordinator.
